Another important effort that I have underway in my effort to understand the Nghệ-Tĩnh Soviets better is using Network Analysis theory and software to tease out exactly who did what where. A trial run, using Gephi Network Analysis software geolocated to the Nghệ-Tĩnh Soviets HGIS in ArcMap shows some interesting results.
Using the names of revolutionaries indicated in Đảng cộng sản Việt Nam, and Đảng cộng sản Việt Nam. Lịch sử đảng bộ huyện Can Lộc, 1930-2000. Hà Nội: Nhà xuất bản Chính trị quốc gia, 2005 and other sources, It appears that most revolutionaries from Can Lộc commune came from three distinct villages. It appears that strong family groups and the lack of non-rice income may have been commonalities among these revolutionaries. I wonder how this applies more broadly? The only problem is that this kind of analysis takes much time, but I will get there.
